I saw this picture of a labradoodle stuck on an ice flow on the Detroit River on the internet and I wondered if people would be outraged if no one tried to save this dog?
What would happen if the first responders just watched the dog float on by rather than attempt to save him? Would anyone care? Be outraged?
People in distress are very much like this dog. Traumatized and vulnerable, unable to save themselves without help. Completely at the mercy of those around them, just like the dog.
What if it was a child on the flow or an infant? Would you try to save them?
What if it was a homeless drug addict or mentally ill person? Would they be as worthy as the dog or the child in your mind? Everyone is someone’s child…

The physical manifestations of hypothermia leaves one unable to move or support themselves. They physically can’t move to save themselves. They are at the mercy of the rest of us. The physical manifestations of trauma are just as debilitating, and left unhealed, they lead many to numb their pain in addiction.
Everyone experiences life differently, and yet we’re all so very similar. Trauma comes out in insidious ways. Anxiety is the result of unresolved emotional pain. Medicating it doesn’t resolve the pain, it masks it.
What are we willing to do to help save them??
How can we help?
What are we each willing to do to extend Hope to the frozen souls on ice flows all around us?
The hypothermia of feeling unloved and unwanted is what causes so many to rely on medication to survive. After all, we are all just human. But, with God, all things are possible...
Don’t just stand there, watching, as someone floats by in the frozen cold of isolation and addiction. Extend a lifeline of HOPE and give them a chance to experience God’s Love, Grace and Mercy!
We ARE the Hands of God. He works THROUGH us…
Will you reach out to those who are frozen from the hypothermia of Hopelessness?
or will you sit silently as they drift on by, into the abyss of lost souls?
